Reused and Inauthentic Content on YouTube
YouTube reviews your whole channel, not just individual videos (Monetization policies).
Rejected or demonetized for reused content? Read the reused content YouTube monetization appeal notes, including how to remove reused content and what YouTube has not confirmed about reapplying after Feb 1, 2027.
Reused content (YouTube’s definition)
Reused content is content repurposed from YouTube or elsewhere “without adding significant original commentary, substantive modifications, or educational or entertainment value.” It’s a separate issue from copyright. You can have zero copyright claims and still fail this check (source).
Inauthentic content: examples YouTube lists
- Similar or repetitive content with minimal variation across videos
- Templated storylines (the same situation and outcome over and over)
- Image slideshows or scrolling text with little narrative or commentary
- AI-generated content built from generic templates that doesn’t add your own insight (source)
What reviewers look at
Your channel’s main theme, most-viewed videos, newest videos, the videos with the most watch time, metadata (titles, thumbnails, descriptions), and your About section (source).
If you’re flagged
- You have 21 days to appeal. You can do it with a video appeal or through Creator Support. YouTube responds within about 14 days (Appeal help).
- Don’t delete videos before you appeal. YouTube assesses your channel as it is at the time of review (source).
- If the appeal is rejected, you can reapply 90 days after the suspension or rejection date (source).
FAQ
Is AI use banned? No. The policy targets mass-produced, templated content that doesn’t add original value (source). Does a “reused content checker” guarantee anything? No. Only YouTube’s reviewers decide.
